My mom controlled our AOL account when I was about 13 and would come into my room to sign me in. So, I created an entirely fake AOL login flow in Visual Basic and had her sign me in once to capture the password. Old school phishing.

It's interesting (to me and prob me only) that nothing was learned from walled-garden AOL on the effects of a closed loop family/friends medium on critical thinking. The Internet going commercial broke them out of that for good or bad. FB simply recreated for those demographics.

@AncientOnyx @robinandthebee @Variety Not even ******* close. We had AOL and Netscape, we asked Jeeves (I mean, who really did?). AIM was our go-to, social media wasn't a thing, beyond chat rooms. We were playing MUDS because even flash through a 28.8 would be too slow to play a game (had it been out!)

Why on earth is someone trying to hack my email? Sending me plenty spams. And putting various forms of my email in the CC. Its almost like they are iterating my email username with every almost email service provider...especially AOL

Overheard in 2021: 1. I could use help with my phone. 2. We have different phones, but I can try. 1. I can do it on my computer, but on my phone, when I try to log into AOL... 2. Stop. I can no longer help. Why would you want to do that? Names redacted to protect the innocent.
