Dai 4 Scotland 🏴🏴🇪🇺
(@DaiAbolic) reported
@mrdanwalker We don't watch broadcast TV or iPlayer, due to the terrible bias against Scotland by BBC and others. Don't pay the 43p/day TAX.

@riverwillow8 @Aiannucci BBC already provides non-exclusively licensed content via iPlayer, could that be a model? I know the rights issues could be difficult, but other providers are already navigating the space. Could there be periods of exclusivity followed by non-exclusive licence?

@NikkiT55983099 Another reason why the fee is awful. Not that I'm in any rush to watch it but how much BBC content that people in the UK paid the license fee for has been removed from iPlayer access & put on Netflix & Britbox. Shows we paid for sold by the BBC & put behind another paywall.

@RevRichardColes The iplayer is half decent at best, don’t use the radio channels, rarely the news channel and BBC1 is awful. Becoming a generational issue. Paying for Sky, Netflix, Disney etc, far superior content and optional, unlike the licence fee/tax.

@MatthewStadlen It would be interesting to see the govt. try to turn HM Queen into a subscription service. If funding the BBC is an issue, make iPlayer available internationally for a fee. BBC contracts will need to be drafted differently i.e. rights granted in perpetuity and not territorially.

@EstibalizTerron Only problem with cancelling your TV licence is you wouldn't be able to watch anything on BBC iPlayer Channel 5/4 demand Itvplayer cause they've made it so you've got to have a TV licence to use them. Should check out Superman & Lois which is on BBC iPlayer awesome DC series.

@TalieDelemere I only really use iPlayer and watch a couple of channels live every now and then, but I can see the value of the service overall. Just look at iPlayer vs alternatives. It's incredibly good - stuff like ITV Hub & All4 are practically unusable.

@FrankieWard It was a “drum and base show”, not exactly a podcast, I guess maybe that made it a problem to release it elsewhere other than iplayer. Also not sure that other BBC apps are available in other country’s AppStore.

@jamiebglover @ruth_wishart Yep but I get Netflix here and while away in my motorhome. I sign in they know it is me and I can watch. I sign into iPlayer and told I cannot watch it while abroad. Every time I go to watch it I am asked do I have a license even though I have signed in.

@bbcpress Awful, isn't it? I might be tempted to pay you a £ a month for iPlayer and BBC4, but that would be it.

@tarbatness @edgeofforest64 @RevRichardColes As a pensioner I can afford a TV licence for which I get quality, the BBC, Radio, ITV & Freeview iPlayer, iSounds, wonderful world, class orchestras. If I lose the BBC I will not be able to afford SKY.

@simonday Miranda Hart's TV series "Miranda" is awful when the trailer played on iPlayer AVG Antivirus detected it as a trojan!

Ade Morton
(@morton_ade) reported
@mrdanwalker If you're outside UK iPlayer doesn't work so paying 43p per day for absolutely nothing. + If license expires whilst abroad you must renew & back pay in full for inaccessible period. BBC could easily implement a per device login for iPlayer! But no, totally unsupported abroad.

My take on the licence fee debate: I do watch Iplayer, am sure I will be using CBBC/ Ceebeebies soon with a little one on the way. Can't abide radio 4 anymore for lack of balance. Think the BBC does produce some good quality output but not sure it is worth £159 c.f. others...
