  @Matt_Pinner All but 2. No AOL address and no waterbed (I’ve sat on one but I’ve never slept on one). I still use some of the others e.g. I used a paper map last week,

  @qaggnews @ColonelTowner @MarkEDeschaine True, back then the community was a lot smaller and better connected in a way, it was just us computer geeks, after all, just getting connected to the internet was difficult until Aol and Bix. I helped bring cable modems and digital set top boxes to the public but that wasn't until mid 90s. Before then, a fast connection was a 44.1Mb T3 at work, or a blazing 128kb from home, you could with some trouble get a T1... A fast CPU ran faster than 2MHz... (not GHz) The fastest link, mid 80s the Boston globe could get going from one side of town to the other was a T2 microwave link, 6Mb, so until Bill Gates started selling pc's to anyone, it was a close and honest community, not without the odd ones, but anti social was the 'uunet' red line I guess. How long did the gets() vulnerability remain unexploited? Years. People didn't break into other systems as a usual thing. That was 40 years ago though and things just aren't the same. The Arduino crowd strikes me as having some of the hobbyist sort of enthusiasm you'd see back then.

  @daniel_koss Current snapshot, maybe undervalued??? Long term...subject to change (eg. Yahoo, AOL, Prodigy, Cisco, Nortel, etc. ) anything can happen. They can 100X or crash....nobody can prognosticate 20 years down the road, but for now make the money get the bag and hedge and pivot IF, (emphasis) IF needed).

  Any 2010 Tech Nostalgia? Working on Privateer. I started this one - at least put it into Google Docs... In 2010. MUCH has changed since this, technology-wise. I mentioned certain Tech Things by name that described those tech things in some detail. The problem is all of that stuff - ALL OF IT - is painfully outdated. AOL. Skype. Blackberry. Hotel Phone Calls. Adobe Flash. Now, I COULD keep all this stuff and keep Privateer a period piece, but I don't think anyone is waxing nostalgic about 2010 Tech Trends.

  @Latterdaytruth The video clip of the TV show Cheers where Rebecca is asking why more men can’t bring flowers and is misheard as Mormons: back in the early days of of AOL I found the clip and edited it so instead of saying “I wish someone would send me some damn roses” it says “I wish someone would send me some some roses” so I could share it with my in-laws who wouldn’t have appreciated the “damn” Now my version is the most common one you can find on the Internet.
