ik ive said this 5000 times but the fact that people are going to joke about discord in 10-20 years the same way we joke about aol and myspace and **** today is so ******* weird

  • WilliamVenomous Overboss "Big T" Larrity (@WilliamVenomous) reported

Lets be honest, Twitter isn't even what we want. Its the best of a bad situation. We're here because we're drunk at 3am and it is the only thing open. If there was literally any other restaurant even slightly better open we'd be there. We never should have left the bar (AOL)

  • BotJesting Jesting Russian Bot (@BotJesting) reported

@AndersBjork2 @IDFSaturn No because it is not centralized. IRC is literally a part of the internet and it's how you would chat with people back in the day if you didn't use a centralized service like AOL, Compuserve or Prodigy.

@HappyBuddha19 @eshaLegal We were just trying to socialize and create intellectual value for us and our peers, not do homework for the lazy sobs every other ISP threw into the mix after AOL led the way. People just said **** on Usenet at that point not for topicality, but solely for audience reach.

I was alive when the internet provider of choice was AOL....... THEM PEOPLE HAVE A PROBLEM WITH FREEDOM...

  • ladufurrena ladlady (@ladufurrena) reported

@Humanstein 1998, at a small office, drafting and art supply/gift store called “Lundberg’s Downtown.” It was one of two Internet Service Providers (ISP) in the rural area. I was pretty good at instructing people how to install AOL (28 then 56k) on their home computers.

  • JonBryant421 Jon Bryant (@JonBryant421) reported

@ATX_fight_club @28delayslater If Tesla buys anything the stock will crash. It is just like AOL. The market didn't want to admit that AOL was in trouble, but AOL knew. Once it bought something, the market became aware.

@I_Mean_I_Dunno @schmiddes1 @shoe0nhead BS. The vast majority utilized big Tech like AOL and CompuServ since the beginning of it and the "free" internet is still out there should you dare to enter and relegate yourself to that space. Most folks want a curated experience and will never join you on 12chan.

I used to get in SO much trouble cause everyone in the house could hear the dial up noise when I tried to login at night... through AOL lmao

@EmilyGorcenski my solution: no real accounts, everyone go back to AOL screen names
