@DLoweryAU @somewherein84 When I had to replace my fridge I had an alcove it had to fit into - & I wanted the largest fridge that would fit in this space. Phoned customer service at AOL, gave them the dimensions & they gave me a selection of fridges to choose from. Fantastic service!

@AriDavidPaul AOL was a closed network. By definition you had to pay to join, that makes a network effect very difficult. They were just big. Netscape is a better example. They got beat, but their network effect helped move the Internet towards ubiquity

@egyptianruin Prior to the internet (or dial-in services like AOL), going online meant dialing in to a local person's Bulletin Board System they ran from their computer. I used to be a SYSOP (System Operator) of one of those in the early 80s. Talk about slow, the modems were only 300 baud

@SoCassandra Sure, why not? After all this, I'd say we can have a throwback summer as a treat. (Heh, guess that means I gotta break out the old Game Boy Advance, and maybe some classic DS games. If only AOL was still around, then you'd really be set.)

This episode also has Data dropping the bomb that he's been trading anonymous AOL instant messages with a pre-warp pre-teen. Like, I trust Data's motives but what ********, dude, is the prime directive a joke to you
