@NguyenLuce @MichaelSFBA @Staroxvia Discord got picked up by a lot of schools/student groups during the pandemic. So there are a lot more non-nerds using it, but they may have as much attachment to Discord as they do to Zoom. It will never be ubiquitous like.. when was the last time an app was ubiquitous, AOL IM?

@internetdepths I used to have grade school homework and cello to practice. So even tho it's 9 in the morning right now, this is giving me "8 o'clock on a school night" vibes. I am deciding whether to spend my hour of AOL time reading The Burrito Page. Ah, memories. Gen Z will rly never know.

@coolauntV My mom was also paying $20 a month for AOL until recently. We helped her cancel it and make a gmail account. I was surprised to know AOL has been quietly charging boomers all this time.

Anyone else having a problem receiving emails from hotmail who are with @AOL . all other emails are coming through and on the hotmail sender it says they’ve sent it.

At that time, AOL was THE on-ramp to the Internet. It was part BBS (Bulletin Board Service) that a wide range of topics you could browse or post on, part email service and part news service.
