Then on 1 December 1996, AOL went flat rate. $19.95. Unlimited. Average usage went from 7 hours a month to 23. The network collapsed. Customers sued. States opened investigations. The CEO had to publicly ask 8 million people to please use the internet less.

I used that name to on a game called Phantasy Star Online. I plugged a GameShark full of mangled code I copied by hand off some aol site. Big mess but got it to work well enough to kill other players or freeze their game by casting magic in brightly lit areas. Too many pixels? Games crashes, can’t render it. Problem was neither could my game! What to do? Lobby teleporter. Hit em with the grants magic spell just as you also click teleport back to game lobby server place. Ophelia 14. Place to be. I also robbed em all of their weapons. Then later gave them out to noobs for frees. I made a game and laid all my goodies in a pile and said take what you want. Fun stuff!

Sometimes I think of the days of aol instant messenger, and how the tech would be to put up an away message and say something like “god my parents will never get me don’t text me. Don’t messsge me” Then proceed to sit there wondering why no one has texted me. Simple times

This Week in Startups: August 3rd It's a wild one 👇 Airtable gets acquired by Bending Spoons for $1.28B. Once valued at $11B, now picked up at a fraction, the third brand-at-a-discount play this year after AOL and Eventbrite. Google’s AI leadership reshuffle. Demis Hassabis moves from CEO of DeepMind to Alphabet Chief Scientist. Nikita Bier steps down from X as Chief Product Officer. Revolut founder in line for a mega payout. Nik Storonsky’s incentive package could push his fortune to £57B if Revolut hits $200B valuation, not far-fetched after its latest secondary at $115B! SpaceX posted its first quarterly earnings. Revenue reached $7.8B (nearly 2x YoY, beating estimates).

@hthieblot It was a masterpiece. AOL, spawn of hell, bought out Netscape in 1998 & deliberately destroyed it trying to force people back to hell. Worst decision in internet history.

.@Ask_Spectrum is worse than AOL dial up—by far. Some manager gave me his number so I could call him if things got bad again. No reply. I need to spend my time trying to save my life from the massive malpractice by Kaiser. My energy is just crushed every day. I struggle to write even a few lines. Dealing with Spectrum again and again and again and it never been fixed is energy outlay I cannot afford.
