Occasionally I would recognize a screen name in an AOL chat but I never reached out. I just let them go on, like old friends passing on the street. Today, I'm Facebook friends with just one, we don't talk much but we do like each other's posts and stay connected.

By fail, i don't mean "closes up shop." I mean stops being centrally important. So like, AOL stopped being centrally important but AOL was never as big as FB and it existed in an era of paid monthly minutes. It took a turn for the worst when the entire business model failed.
