@mjfree No. Had a cousin die and @AOL kept billing his credit card even though his parents canceled the service several times. It took canceling the cc to stop them from charging his estate.

@DjRodgers1231 @StephenGutowski AOL and Yahoo had interoperability. You could email anyone regardless of what email service they used. On Twitter you can only interact with other Twitter users. If you use Parler, you reach a fraction of the audience. That's why networks tend to result in natural monopolies.

@normonics @dark4181 @LPNH But it does seem to fly in the face of your complaint, right? The free market tends to take care of monopolies absent government intervention. Government intervention is responsible for propping monopolies up. Even so, they eventually fall, see AOL

@andrewdoull This was actually a worse offender, Fear Street 1994, and the font _name_ is in an AOL online chat window drop down that features prominently more than once in the movie (the chat, not the drop down)
