You could sit your forty year old mother down in front of AOL and she'd see the appeal. It was technology that sold itself, and that reliably avoided scamming huge swaths of its users out of thousands of dollars.

@bendreyfuss So it turns out, that if you're in a chat room (AOL, irc, whatever ******** they call it now) When you troll the chatroom screaming: YOURE NOT REAL! YOURE NOTHING BUT ELECTRONS IN MY COMPUTER! WHEN I TURN IT OFF YOU DON'T EXIST!! It makes you no friends, and people get upset

@alphaarchitect @hlthyhngryhppy @maybebullish We've all been in the metaverse since iphone in 2007, probably since Prodigy and AOL connected homes in the 1990s. O2 is just another branch down the rabbit hole. Good or bad? I dunno. It just is.

@NHSEngland @OpenreachHelp are we really this ignorant to the fact that not everyone in the UK has the luxury of Internet at home? Nearly cancelled my £25 service as its a HUGE FEE to pay for speeds WORSE THAN AOL DIAL-UP! I'D PAY £100 JUST FOR FAST BROADBAND IF IT WAS AVAILABLE!
