Also, if anyones interested in signing up on #myspacereloaded you should know the site is kind of broken and limited but its an investment. I reinvested in AOL and now AOL is doing pretty well as an email and news service. Myspace started facebook, and deserves a second look.

At the time, AOL was made up of something like 18 channels. Two of us ran 1/18 of the entire service, and they cut both of us without even letting our boss know. We had literally built it from scratch. There was no knowledge transfer, no prep, nothing. Just “leave by noon.”

In retrospect, AOL had started its slide into oblivion a few moths prior, but you will never convince me that wasn’t the day it signed it’s death warrant. Because we weren’t the only team that was fired like that. At least a half dozen other teams were gutted too, maybe more.

@thingskatedid This is far from the first time someone in tech is doing something insanely stupid. Some ten years ago, Nokias switch to Microsofts mobile os was like swallowing a hand grenade. Before that, Time Warner purchased AOL. And before that, Yahoo forgot that they depended on users.

@Ravenbeanz technique of saying oops. Still trying to live down giving someone directions to Fukkerton train station. In my defense the K & L are way to close together on the keyboard! Sent Cunty for County. Back in AOL days hit correct all and didnt look. Changed Geritol to ********. Opps!

@amazon Hey Amazon & Jeff B as I tried to watch the TNF game last night I repeatedly had a delay with loss of volume as the stupid app circle spun around like a drunk trying to walk. The access to your channel reminds me of logging on to the original AOL. #YouveGotMail @JeffBezos

@JackPosobiec It definitely sucks for these people. I can sympathize as I’ve been “there” myself. I’ve worked for AOL Patch and hibu (community magazines). Both did mass layoffs on phone calls. It doesn’t feel fair and I hate that it happens but it’s business - it’s actually that simple.

  • Teuvz Matthew Charlton (@Teuvz) reported

It's not the first time I see this happening - remember AOL Forums? IRC? Geocities? Myspace? Skyblog? MSN? Internet users are nomadic by nature but this time is a bit different: we're not moving because we found a nicer place, we're moving because an idiot set fire the village.

@AOLSupportHelp My account got deleted? It doesn’t send me a code to my phone, or recovery emails. I can’t even sign in, or sign up for the premium live chat.
