  • The_DoctorO Darren Owen (DrO | WACUP aka WinAMP++) (@The_DoctorO) reported

    @maerlynofmiria @keao45 @battlestar9 There's still a cost as it sure wasn't free to develop despite being a free download & the money to pay developers has to come from somewhere. AOL ownership had it's issues but they kept paying for developers for a lot longer than probably made any financial sense to do so.

  • agoodjuan Juan Vargas (@agoodjuan) reported from Carson, California

    DHSP fix yo Wifi. It's not 1996... What's with this AOL dial-up nonsense?

  • eraad er (@eraad) reported

    @BeantownHodl @CedYoungelman It’s a bad analogy because AOL did not fail because of bad technology but bad business decisions.

  • Jsnapkins jmsbananas (@Jsnapkins) reported

    @robohontas Sometimes I try to remember what it was like before ALL of it. At 13 I was basically responsible for all computer and internet related stuff at home. Parents didn’t have time to sit on hold for 3 hrs w/aol cust service or learn DOS commands.

  • VincentPascual Vincent Pascual (@VincentPascual) reported

    @dman4835 @DailyPedantry “Ultimately, ‘Section 230(c)(2) immunizes from liability providers and users of interactive computer service who voluntarily make good faith efforts to restrict access to material they consider to be objectionable.’” - Domen v. Vimeo, citing Green v. AOL

  • CipherKnot 🗽CentralScrutinizer ☠️ (@CipherKnot) reported

    @tamaleaver @mike_salter FB's business model is hostile to America. They've essentially become a parasitic soveriegn digital state, sucking down user data at an inherent cost that could destroy its host body. They sell this data to US rivals and enemies while accountable to no one. AOL on steroids,

    @balleralert 2...samsung already did a flip screen n had problems where the crease is...plus I really miss my sidekick n aol use to hit diff than these new messengers...

    @AuntHortense Watching PEN15 legit brought all those AOL memories flooding back. That **** was wildly unsafe and there were far fewer safeguards or parental awareness in those early wild west days.

  • LockenessNyad Erica Locke (@LockenessNyad) reported

    @SoCalEdgyGal I was saying this back in 1999 in AOL chat rooms. It is simply obscene our government has ignored the problem for so long.

  • chrishanrahan Lord Chris Hanrahan (He/Him) (@chrishanrahan) reported

    @clarkvalentine I was trying to buy a house and went cash only. I missed out on AOL when it was BIG, Sega, some adobe...but my house has gained over a million in value, so basically i have nothing to complain about. I would have done STUPID things with that kinda money.
