@Se7enball @tea_party_james @RockChartrand The Internet was based on open protocols. So was the Web. HTTP was an open protocol. AOL and MSN were walled gardens, like X and Facebook. Their owners would never allow Amazon, Facebook, Google etc. to be launched inside, they would copy them and/or try to kill them!

@still_gre @C_U271D Common in tech. 10 years ago Verizon bought several YouTube competitions to keep it's own failing YouTube competitor alive a little longer, then failed to market it over AOL and Yahoo and shut it down after 1.3b $
