@beast_talking i got aol in 1995 and while dial up was crap the internet then blew my mind, it was a glimpse into the future.... some sci fi movie s***. using gamepro chatrooms, with people live and using aim was wild to kid me.

@KhleoThomas Random but I hate how I had friendships and relationships just erased once MSN, Yahoo and AOL messengers shut down.

@katiethekirby @drmistercody I remember when the internet made horrible screeching noises and making AOL "1,000 hours free" disc wind chimes was fun and I had to ask my only slightly younger sibling what it meant

@AlexBerenson To me $TSLA is more the AOL of today. Had a massive first mover advantage, then got destroyed by an historically bad acquisition and market forces and withered away. At this point investing in Elon Musk nuking his own customer base has to be more dumb than investing in dial-up.

When I did roleplaying games on aol . com ten thousand years ago in the 1997-1999 range, the air tasted better and more real than it ever will again. I have never been in a game since that time that has been as good as the stupid chaos of those white wolf chatrooms

@ChuckCallesto Google, like Facebook, was likely created out of DARPA. Why else did earlier search engines that worked perfectly fine (Netscape, AOL, Yahoo, Alta Vista) get surpassed by Google and why did MySpace fail to advance with their earlier lead? It was a gov’t operation the whole time.
