@TravisKoshko @hannahschollwx I've never heard of powwow 32 but I used aim until 08 or 09. Never used ICQ but I know what it was but the first "internet" I remember using was Prodigy. I also remember setting off aol sound effects (welcome, goodbye, etc) in chatrooms by typing something special.

@default_friend Distinctly recall arguing with people about dumb things in AOL chat rooms. Also the long-dead file-sharing service AudioGalaxy comes to mind, some great shitposting forums there

@NickRevell317 @CardPurchaser Funny you say that. I always said it was extension of phone/email. They could have integrated video, allowed better file sharing and subscription model. Teams, zoom and Slack all in one. But they had 2010 AOL and Yahoo management or a 3-legged cat burying **** on a frozen pond.

@default_friend 3rd grade? Talking about Hilary Duff in a celeb fashion AOL chatroom, using a handle I shared with my even younger sister. By this time my older brothers had been long playing competitive counter-strike so my parents were pretty worn down by their kids' screen addiction.

@normalguy345 @YouTube It was slow AF. I used one AOL address for Pandora and few other sites but i got hacked and the email was used to spam people. I was getting emails from my contacts about the spam. I called AOL and tried to get rid of the email and they wouldn't delete it.

@FlyinBrianJr Yes, I'm conyacting AOL customer service, and they told me to try another dial-up server, and update the software for AOL instant messaging. Still waiting for a good connection. That 1 gig speed internet isn't an improvement either.
