Gary Dauphin (@GeeDeezyDauphin) reported@TTrimoreau Anyone remember Apple's EWorld? It was Apple's attempt to gain some of the profits from the internet craze. I told them it would fail. It ended up being a year and half late, and was still just a rebranded version of AOL online. It folded shortly after being released.

Ike (@Iken75) reported@muheediva01 Hmm, a lot of people seem to think Wi-Fi=internet for some reason. There was no wireless internet. It was landline POTS at your house and maybe if you were lucky you had access to a business or school that could afford to lease a T1. In home broadband wasn't a thing yet, it was super expensive, and the internet was often gated through online service providers like AOL, and the original OSP's like Prodigy and CompuServe were still around. This is before even napster, so p2p music downloads weren't really happening yet either. You could play Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, minesweeper or Tetris on your PC. If you had Prodigy you could play MadMaze. The original Civilization and Sid Meier's Pirates! were out then as well. Most days during the summer I would go out and try and get a pickup basketball or baseball game going. If that failed I'd read a book or build **** with legos. After dinner if I wasn't in trouble and had done my chores I could play videogames. I had two sisters I had to share PC and internet time with. It wasn't super common to have a TV in your bedroom, and I didn't. So if you wanted to watch a show or a movie you had to gain consensus.

SID | Degen (@SidDegen) reportedi don't buy the "ai search replaces Google" thesis. the data says the opposite is happening. Cloudflare Radar, may 2026: every ai chatbot — ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity — sends 0.29% of global search referrals. Google sends 87.63%. 301-to-1. Anthropic's ClaudeBot crawls 11,122 pages for every human visit it returns vs Google's 5:1. Alphabet Q1 2026 filing: Google search revenue $60.4B, +19% yoy, up from +17% in Q4. ai overviews hit 2.5B monthly users; ai mode crossed 1B. alphabet says ai overviews monetize at rates "similar to traditional search" (june 2026 investor presentation). the kill-google thesis is showing up as negative signal in the actual p&l. Perplexity — the consensus poster child — killed its entire ad business in feb (Financial Times, The Verge). ads generated $20K against $34M revenue. exec quote: "a user would just start doubting everything." a company that can't make advertising work cannot disrupt a $60B/quarter advertising business. the consensus pusher worth countering specifically — @sarahdingwang at a16z, who led Exa's $250M Series C at $2.2B in may. her line: "agents will search the web more than humans this year. soon orders of magnitudes more." historical analog — Netscape 1994-98. the next platform that would reduce windows to "a poorly debugged set of device drivers." 80% share, record ipo. microsoft bundled IE for free. netscape sold to AOL for scrap. the company that captured the value was the one everyone thought netscape would displace — Google, founded 1998 — the services layer above the commodity. counter-position: ai search isn't replacing Google. Google is becoming ai search. standalone players are fighting netscape's war while the incumbent absorbs the tech into a surface 2.5B people already use. investor read: Exa at $2.2B and Perplexity at $22B are priced for a market-share takeover the referral data says isn't happening. the smarter bet is the layer that monetizes the ai-overview expansion Google is driving.

Eric Smith (@Eric_Smith08) reported20. Connected Account Vulnerability The Situation: Back in 2010, you finally made the jump from Yahoo, Hotmail, or AOL to Gmail. To make the transition easier, you linked your old legacy account to automatically forward everything into your new Gmail inbox. You haven't logged into that Yahoo account in a decade. The Mechanics: Legacy email platforms like Yahoo and AOL have notoriously outdated, porous spam filters compared to Google's billion-dollar machine learning infrastructure. By using POP3 or IMAP to pull that mail into Gmail, you are essentially bypassing Google's frontline defenses and piping raw, unfiltered internet sewage straight into your pristine Gmail ecosystem. The Fix: It is time to sever the cord. Go to Gmail Settings > Accounts and Import. Look under "Check mail from other accounts." Delete the legacy connections. If you absolutely still need access to that ancient Hotmail account for banking resets, log into it directly, aggressively clean it, and set up incredibly strict server-side rules there before allowing it anywhere near your primary hub.

Lynnie (@TweetThisBabe) reported@AOL What a shame you now have ruined the email by inputting ADS. How ridiculous was this and unfair to everyone? We do not want ads in our email please. How about bringing back your chat rooms which used to be so fun and not like on other apps that are just so bad? Would you please consider that? And get rid of the ADS in email please. Thanks!
