  @antiorario Might be the worst examples you could have picked. People don’t *choose* email providers, there are millions using their AOL accounts in 2022. And not only is phone service a necessity, but it is an industry that lovbies to stay hard-to-use and would fail any satisfaction survey.

  It died because the guy who made it worked for AOL and he had developed part of it on company time or something. So they took it from him and shuttered it. Overnight. It was replaced with fic. ly or something like that. But there were some differences & it never regained steam.

  Remember that PFP NFT craze in 21-22? That **** was wild. We turned free AOL chat rooms from the late 90s into a selling point and downloaded open source images from a website that we paid more for than our mortgage payment. But we had fun now, didn't we?!? Ah, crazy times.

  @strowhiro Not a heavy user before the exodus, but for some this outcome was always a real possibility. Mastodon is to micro blogging what email was to the walled gardens of AOL, Prodigy, CompuServe. Decentralized and unable to be controlled by a single bad actor.

  People comparing Mastodon to using email w/ different servers. Giving me customer service flashbacks when I did email support looooong time ago & AOL users didn't know their complete email addresses, just their screen name. If you got an incomplete email, usually AOL.

  @CryptoRyan1989 @Ashcryptoreal Xrp has done alright…down less than btc..wouldn’t touch eth with someone else’s 10ft pole. Btc is ok but outdated and the least sophisticated. Stick to the top 10 and maybe even the top 50..but don’t fall in the trap of thinking btc is the one and only…ppl said that about AOL.
