I never really had any friends to speak of in grade school or high school even. Hell, I made a lot more online anywhere once I got the Internet when I was going into high school since they just had a ptp of Kai Hiwatari in forms or MSN/AOL Messager so I could not be really judged

I've never felt older than having to explain to my teenage brother what aim and aol was and not being able to use the house computer if someone was on the house phone or not texting after 9pm or running out of minutes 😭

@JustinMcElroy IRC, BBSes, Usenet, dedicated server browsers for games, GeoCities, all sorts of interesting stuff. The very idea of a giant corp telling you what to do with YOUR space literally didn't exist. The worst thing? AOL, and what was it like? Just like now.

@rhetorical_joke I had my now teenagers young. I had the internet when I was a teen and had no idea how bad it had gotten since I was messing around in AOL chat rooms. Kids watching beheadings, violent porn, getting brainwashed by algorithms. If I didn't know, they're parents had even less clue
