@ericgarland “sale allows Verizon to offload properties from former internet empires of AOL and Yahoo. Verizon will keep 10% stake in the company and be rebranded to just “Yahoo.” “Verizon bought AOL in 2015 for $4.4B, and bought Yahoo for $4.5B in 2017.” @amyklobuchar fix our monopolies!!

$VZ stops the bleeding & waste of resources with the sale of Yahoo & Aol. It was the best house in a bad neighborhood. Now it's someone else's problem. Next time $VZ mgmt can take an Oath to build out the network & improve cash flow. They have diamonds in their backyard.

In 2001, I bought a majority stake in AOL for $212 billion. In 2020, I sold that stake for $5 billion, a 97% net loss. I wrote that loss off, ensuring I never have to pay taxes again and also received a $300 billion bailout from the government. Patience pays off.

@neednewshorts There was less noise on the wire. I miss the simplistic times where stupid people were corralled to AOL, and the decent/intelligent individuals were free to roam without restriction and play glorious games together.

@serendipitidoda yahoo started as a search engine if I recall. For some reason my email box over there never really was used. But yet I have gmail. I suspect Yahoo still has more value than AOL.

A private equity firm buying AOL, Yahoo! and TechCrunch will either be great or really bad. They will recognize their lack of knowledge in this space and allow each brand to flourish, or they'll kill 'em. Thoughts?
