    And then of course later it turned out that he was ******* some girl he met on like AOL or some ******* **** (it was like 2004), and that the whole scene was just him projecting onto me...

    @cattydragons And when I became an adult having an account was free, so I did for awhile, and I still have an AOL e-mail I use for Bub's game stuff even though the service itself is... like five bucks a month or some **** now. Without AIM it's useless.

    @anvilwalrusden Sure, the web could never be as decentralized as Usenet. I was comparing it to the way you could publish content "online" prior to the Web. Some of us were using gopher, FTP, BBSs or Usenet But most people could only use the "information services" like CompuServe, AOL,etc i/

    Turns out I stupidly set up an account on an Asian service specialising in "smart" devices (i.e. the fan I bought). I linked my Facebook account with the service and forgot that said FB account's primary email was my deactivated AOL *email account*. (2/3)
