@TheBarrylad I feel like the narrative of how silly and bad WCW was at by the end has made people think that they died because of just that - and not because they had lost 60 mil the year before and then even after crazy budget cuts were losing half a mil on AOL/Time Warners dime

@GiftedMoney @GlobalForceGold 96-98 was peak WCW and yes Ted was happy with it. WcW problem came when AOL took over after the merger and started instituting a ton of changes to budget, production and staff. AOL didn’t value WcW like Ted did. AOL and a host of hiring and rule changes lead to the downfall

Now as a 30 year old who pines for the AOL days and when the internet could be used as escapism, that stupid AOL “welcome” sound makes me a little emotional

@ThatEricAlper I was a kid as the internet rolled out so my memory of what was internet vs not is fuzzy. AOL CD-ROMs are probably the earliest. One time my phone line got crossed with a neighbor down the street and I couldn’t get online until they hung up their call.

That moment when @VerizonSupport says service is back up in your area, yet your gigabit internet is still providing .76MBPS download speeds...since last Wednesday. Really? At this point, AOL from 1996 would be better...

@tim_virnig It may be just because I’m old, but Discord feels like a beta version of AOL chat rooms. People there can definitely be very cool, but I feel like I need a discord guru to help me understand it. It’s just not very intuitive to me.

@DEBAPRIYOELITE The AOL/Time Warner merger is what cancelled WCW, popular shows get canceled all the time, WCW’s lowest rating in 2001 was 2.1 and that’s really not that bad
