@PatrickHolzer @Hanjarolol @MattWalshBlog All websites are publishers. You gotta read Section 230 law. Lol Zeran v. AOL "Lawsuits seeking to hold a service liable for its exercise of a publisher's traditional editorial functions – such as deciding whether to publish, withdraw, postpone or alter content – are barred"

  • RadiantBard What if I was a worm? 👉👈 (@RadiantBard) reported

I remember being ten. I was awful. This was back in 2000, when AOL chatrooms were still a thing and it was easy to just catfish grown men and fleece them out of money. All it required was a little maliciousness and an ambivalence to penises. Anyway, keep an eye on your kids.

Everybody complaining that the Mastodon network's federation model is too complicated should stop using email. Email: username@domain Mastodon: username@domain We've been using federated servers for DECADES. That's why my Gmail can send messages to my Mom's AOL.

  • JennieChell Trump was correct 🇺🇸 (@JennieChell) reported

@AOLSupportHelp When I click on reply to reply to an E-mail in the app, the cursor jumps down to the bottom of the page, and I need to scroll up to try again. This process repeats incessantly as I try to type.

Trying to cancel an Adobe subscription. Getting PTSD from the scammy days of AOL as they try and upsell me, convince me not to quit, add more offers, and generally stink of frantic desperation. Let it go, @Adobe . Just let it go.

  • RogueScholarMDC Rogue Scholar MDC 🍥 #Rifts (@RogueScholarMDC) reported

@Grummz Ultimate Online was the first MMORPG, with the emphasis on the first M (Massively). The actual first "MMO" which could support up to 60 players was Neverwinter Nights on AOL, at least the first *graphical* MMO. MUDs came before that but it was text based.

  • MichaelSMorgan6 Michael S. Morgan (@MichaelSMorgan6) reported

There used to be (e.g., on aol) something called "chat rooms," for specific topics. Everyone was visible, had a profile, and could make any comment anytime, but always visible to others in the room. The whole problem with social media now is private, targeted messaging.

@luvkit All websites are publishers & you're making a Section 230 Zeran v. AOL argument "Lawsuits seeking to hold a service liable for its exercise of a publisher's traditional editorial functions – such as deciding whether to publish, withdraw, postpone or alter content – are barred"

@nothingfromnada AOL fumbled definitely, but AOL was never the word for "going online." Skype was the defacto word for any form of video call (except maybe FaceTime) and they just let Zoom come out of nowhere and become the main service people use for video calls during covid. Massive fumble
