    @Humanstein I found a paperback copy of The Straight Dope in a Books-A-Million around 1998, and I joined the SDMB in 98 or 99, after they moved from AOL to the web. It looks like my login doesn’t work on the current version of the board, though.

    @Humanstein Phantom of the Opera AOL chatroom, 1998. There were about half a dozen of us who showed up every night after school to just hang out and indulge in fandom nonsense. Still friends with a couple of those people to this day.

    I have been online for a LONG time. I’m talking since AOL and rural ******* dial up. And let me tell you I have run with Wild Bunch on it. But, I have NEVER ******* seen anybody banned from as many platforms as the flaming yam.

    @johndavidfraley Seattle has played a sloppy game today! They deserve to lose, the QB for the Rams has a broken thumb and playing better than Russell who seems to be AOL lately! Maybe it’s time for Pete and Russell to find new jobs. 3rd seed and losing the very first game!! Out of the play offs
