@CanWeSchmooze @mcuban There's nothing left to take. The $44 Billion payment for a company worth less than a tenth of the price ha broken the model. This is AOL Time Warner all over again. It will be sold off, but remember their asset is your customer data.

@ThomasGrissom Yep, the right has run Texas since the days we got AOL floppy disks in the mail. But they're never to blame for anything. Anything wrong here is always the other side's fault.

  • nothingfromnada Tired (@nothingfromnada) reported

"Eternal September" is the earliest internet Thing I participated in, in that I was a clueless 13 year old posting to Usenet from our AOL account, totally ignorant of the culture and customs. Sorry y'all, it was my bad.

It's like if everyone left Twitter for gmail, the complained the servers went down instead of some people going to Yahoo, some people going to AOL, and some people setting up their own servers.

  • Corianturo Ryan Shimp 🇺🇲 (@Corianturo) reported

@scottjohnson ICQ was, in fact, a great product! Arguably better than AIM as an overall product, I agree. I, unfortunately didn't have much opportunity to use the product, as most I knew far preferred simply using the more basic, AIM service provided w/i AOL or texting back then.

@juliamacfarlane Yeah it’s awful. Dial up AOL

Having grown up on AOL RPG message board and fashion forum culture, it makes me kinda sad how Discord and Twitter has turbo charged my dopamine production -- such that I can't really enjoy slow burning conversation anymore.
