@childe_dirk @culturenthrills I didn’t realize it was bad until I jumped on some aol message boards and found out

  • RabbitOfCa74303 RabbitofCaerbannog (@RabbitOfCa74303) reported

@ChrisJo72368411 @AfriedmanAndrew @dril Are such wishes to not have the mark documented? For years AOL made money off of people who simply didn’t cancel their service and presumed not paying it meant they had withdrawn from it.

  • GenericUserX2 Chuckles McGee (@GenericUserX2) reported

@LetruneInedil @caitlinmoriah "I don't need to know what Ethernet is to be a network engineer. My family had AOL on dial-up back in '98 so I'm sure Wifi works the same now"

  • Negritorama HEKIREKI (@Negritorama) reported

@roudique @AndrewPerpetua Was AOL too big to fail?

  • bloodmoonbobby Blood Moon Bobby (@bloodmoonbobby) reported

I didn't have AOL at my house when I was a kid, but it had AT&T WorldNet instead. It had the most jarring startup sequence. Which DSL service did you have? 💻

  • KneeDeepMedia Mike "Iceberg" Stevens (@KneeDeepMedia) reported

@EFFEXLandscape @mlb_scoops So did he (known perv). Teaching typing gives the teacher an advantageous angle. But no, I remember it just happening out of nowhere on AOL. One night I just noticed, "holy **** am I typing fast."

  • Negritorama HEKIREKI (@Negritorama) reported

@roudique @AndrewPerpetua Was AOL and Yahoo too big to fail? Could you remember how many years ago Google released any new successful product? There is hidden price to killing so many projects: people have no faith in you and look for other partners to innovate.

  • LivemusicCJ Chris (@LivemusicCJ) reported

@UltraTestoster1 @ElijahSchaffer I still have my original AOL email (I keep it for a spam account when you have to sign up for mailing lists). I’ve had it since 1993. Crazy to think that was 30 years ago. In 6th grade we started using IRENE. **** I feel old now

  • NoweiraA Noweira, A. M. (@NoweiraA) reported

@PhilSmythEAP Yes, measuring AfL in the way that we measure AoL is completely different depending on the aim of each assessment type. The former aims to support ss to reach designed goals that are going to be measured using AoL. Thus, the case of validity & reliability is not crucial here.

@rob_sheridan His interpretation seems like some kind of John Hughes version of reality. Entitled ***** and crazy loaners formed self-reinforcing mega/maga groups which had only existed in newsgroups and aol boomer chasms. From what I read about Elon, he never even learned how to code.
