@popeyeotaku Yeah lol I didn't know it was a thing until I used this sketchy program called "methodus toolz" which was this weird script kiddie tool for getting in trouble on AOL. One of the options was a really simple way to do what you're talking about

@Pinboard I remain surprised that nobody has made an operating system designed for older, less tech literate people - an AOL, as it were. Really feel it trying to help my in-laws with stuff - dealing with updates, constant changes, etc, genuinely hard.

@RetroEthan64 @MelonSaurus MySpace existed before Facebook and had the same place Facebook now holds. I’ve been on the Internet since around 1995 and frequented AOL when it was its own Internet service and Nintendo’s AOL page and website which were extremely active.

@DonSamders how exactly does one make it to 2021 without an email address? Just never had one? Or did, like, his college email address expire? Perhaps the AOL CD-ROM had a statue of limitations? Oh, I know...he's a time traveler from way back prior to the year 1990! is he Encino Man?

@_grendan Right? For me personally, nothing changed. I live on the internet and have since AOL dial-up. (My income, my hobbies, my everything all exists online) Being able to have online social skills, coupled with in-person social skills has never been an issue for this millennial.
