I partially remember some awful @AOL experiences but I have no doubt my least favorite web based company is @eBay

  • ookleton ֆɨɛʀʀǟ (@ookleton) reported

@Utwitily AOL 1998-1999? I remember my mom's friends coming over to use it too because they had never had it before lol

  • Cmonmack1 Cmonmack! (@Cmonmack1) reported

@Utwitily Absolutely. I remember when we got the AOL cdrom in the mail for free. My main feature was AIM to talk to girls at school I had crushes on. My aim game was appallingly bad.

  • paulofthepool Paulofthepool🇺🇦🇪🇺 (@paulofthepool) reported

@DrewLawDesign Controversial town - In 1996 AOL's obscenity filter (among others) refused to accept the name due to its embedded word 'c*nt'. Online forums displayed the name as Scumthorpe, or Scoonthorpe. This censorship over-reach is known in the computing world as the Scunthorpe problem.

  • K_LubAllen Caleb Allen (@K_LubAllen) reported

@Utwitily I remember using those AOL discs and then we eventually got home internet service through a local Internet cafe in the late 90s back before you had to go through the major telecom companies.

  • MeowMixology Stringfellow Hawke (@MeowMixology) reported

@Utwitily Yes. Only I really used it. 1992 Prodigy network then AOL shortly after that then 1996 for 'real' internet then around 2001 for DSL.

This is in like, "RPG" nerd and video game chatrooms on AOL. This **** is so normalized in our ****** culture. Utterly and directly taught to be people to be like that.

  • The_Real_Swanie Swanie (@The_Real_Swanie) reported

@UberNick You have any issues with the server quality just being wildly inconsistent from match to match? One match it's great then next feels like AOL dail up.

  • bobbytrbl mehtab (@bobbytrbl) reported
