This was back when the internet just started taking off. AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) was a black hole of possibilities. Information was being documented in one central place. Then social media connected us to people near and far that we never would've met otherwise.

@EquusFemina @AOLSupportHelp I'm now getting emails come through (though not all of the tests that I sent myself) and I have had one sent successfully too. Hopefully the problem is now sorted, but there is about 2 hours where I think if anyone sent us an email then they've probably been lost!

@bird_tools @AutodeskAPS Things I have known since I first got to play with AOL instant messenger (for you kids it was a messaging app which had a LOT of chatbots): never trust a something said by a computer.

@the_transit_guy a lot of the "x company didn't buy y company" takes don't account for had those happened, you never know if the "y" company would have still grown to be what it is now, or if "x" would have fumbled. For me, AOL buying TimeWarner... which I think will be topped by EL buying TWTR

It's ripe for the same NEON, RUBIX CUBES, 80's!!! treatment Chain wallets, JNCO jeans, raves, dialup internet (faux AOL trial disks & CDs will no doubt be a marketing gimmick for something down the road), collectible card games taking off, daytime talk shows still being a thing
