The AOL rep just kept me on the phone reading his list of questions, & I would say "That's not relevant. I'm asking you to cancel my service." And he'd go, Okay, I'm going to put down that the customer would not answer... (3)

@WhippleMarc @AkivaMCohen My Mom had an AOL address, never changed it in over 20 years of being online. Loved her dearly, would have hired her in a second to do my taxes (she was a stellar CPA), but still not sure it's the right branding choice for a law firm that might want a little respect.

@Lyndzzz ICQ's one I actually never had. I started on AIM, because AOL was my first ISP (the good ol' days of dial-up...), then MSN was mine too.

Alas, I never had an AOL email account — I was more of a Juno and EarthLink kind of guy.

So we spent a long time like that because @AOL thought I had an obligation to do business with them if I couldn't give them a convincing reason I needed to cancel. This is the extreme version of making it easy to subscribe & difficult to cancel, but it's all crookery (4)

@SteamboatUSA Never mind the AOL email addresses; “Dudenhefer Law Firm” sounds like a Shelbyville firm on The Simpsons.
