Hail all the streaming platforms whose entire business model is to get ppl signed up for a free trial to watch the one movie that isn’t available elsewhere, and then continue to bill the 57% of people who forget to cancel. Congratulations, y’all are the AOL of the 21st Century.

@pyrrhl First signed up for my own email address with rocketmail in 1996. Aside from the domain I still use the same address (it has moved around to almost every provider sans aol since then...) Is that a bad thing?

@Pinboard I remain surprised that nobody has made an operating system designed for older, less tech literate people - an AOL, as it were. Really feel it trying to help my in-laws with stuff - dealing with updates, constant changes, etc, genuinely hard.

@RetroEthan64 @MelonSaurus MySpace existed before Facebook and had the same place Facebook now holds. I’ve been on the Internet since around 1995 and frequented AOL when it was its own Internet service and Nintendo’s AOL page and website which were extremely active.
