@punishedemma The internet was better before normies figured out how to use it. Web TV and then AOL were the downfall. The old barrier to entry kept out the undesirables. The net is for fake Scully nudes, bad Star Trek fanfic, and guys who discuss Linux. Not for the cool kids or Grandma.

@Rainmaker1973 Reportedly, a few million still used the service by the time it shut down. The closest thing in the US was Compuserve which was quickly overwhelmed by competition from AOL, Compuserve was the first of its kind to deliver images, they invented the gif format we still use today.

Like, I don't have a problem with the book itself so far, but it chips away at my suspension of disbelief to listen to this kid talk like a grouchy but lovable grandfather and a paragraph after trying to log into AOL we're talking about the Hamilton national tour.

@ThatDrunkSim @MellowJeyPi Yeah, I had the game legally, but my sister’s email that she used for our Origin login got deactivated because it was an aol email so now we can’t play and I need my fix. I really miss my sims 😭😭

I take back any complaints about the Compound Media website and the trouble I'm having with a subscription. It turns out the problem rests with my having once had an account under a different email. I thought it was going to be like AOL and I could get free months each new email
