  @HayleyWazEre Long story short, AOL and the largest business-to-business Internet Service Provider at the time (UUNET), were both headquartered here. Companies started laying a lot of fiber. This has been going on for 25 years here. They take a lot of water and power.

  Fax machine: yup Rotary phone: seen, never used Encyclopedia: yup Floppy disk: I was an early 90s kid. Yes. Aol address: never had one but I think my dad did Record player: family had one Film camera: depends. If this is actual movie film, no. If classic roll of film you have to develop? Yes. Mixed tape: had a few. Phone booth: yes. Cursive: man it has been a long time but yes. Check book: yes. Typewriter: yes Dictionary: multiple times before Google was a thing VCR: it was how I watched the original land before time, secret of NIMH, and others. Paper map: yes. Waterbed: once Postcard: multiple times Walkman: wasn't that lucky Phonebook: yes. 17/20

  Any 2010 Tech Nostalgia? Working on Privateer. I started this one - at least put it into Google Docs... In 2010. MUCH has changed since this, technology-wise. I mentioned certain Tech Things by name that described those tech things in some detail. The problem is all of that stuff - ALL OF IT - is painfully outdated. AOL. Skype. Blackberry. Hotel Phone Calls. Adobe Flash. Now, I COULD keep all this stuff and keep Privateer a period piece, but I don't think anyone is waxing nostalgic about 2010 Tech Trends.

  230 people. One inflatable boat. New record. The dinghy was already carrying 50 people when it stopped to pick up more — around 30 fell into the water during the scramble to board. French rescuers watched it leave “buckling under the swell.” It broke the previous record of 165, set just last month. Here’s the number nobody’s posting today: total Channel crossings in 2026 are down 43% from this time last year. Fewer boats. More people crammed into each one.
