@intheminivan1 @BillieBook The storytelling is bad — how do we know the indie store isn’t thriving? Because JF is literally the only purchase we see being made there. Also JF lies to & gaslights KK. Not Ephron’s best work, totally misogynistic. Plus borderline shilling for AOL.

@bodh_io Yep, dial up (AOL). Uphill, in the snow, both ways. IYKYK One of the perks of working for @NIUNorthernStar was that we had ethernet connections to the university mainframe. Fast, for those days. Sucked going home to slower than slow dial-up.

@JoeHolder_ Because capitalism. Aol knew we were going to eventually pay them. But for stuff that would actually save us, they don't give a **** about. I realize this is pessimistic but look around and you know it's true.

@Mendinso Yeah. The problem of late 90's Internet in South America was the blatant monopoly of @Telefonica that sincerely made impossible to widespread the 56K in the same way that AOL did in the US.

@Sun_Megami @WSJ Education is by definition an investment. If you put 160k into AOL stock then dont look to me for pity for your garbage decisions. And it is exactly like buying merchandise because her degree was probably 30k anywhere else. Dumb-dumb paid a 130k brand markup. She had choices.

@Sara_Rose_G @fodderfigure So like, this is a position I've formed partly from a personal history on the internet that started on AOL message boards, and partly from having seen this go down more than once, but... It's good to lurk. And it's good to take some time to unpack and get comfortable... 7/
