@Coyotecyb @MuppetYglesias Oh wow. There’s an aol of mine from that era, but I could probably never get back into it lmao

  • Onijitsu Onìjítsu 👹 鬼 の 道 (@Onijitsu) reported

@lordbearwolf @SomeWelder Dude. Did they get in any trouble? Back in the day a pal and I figured out a way to transmit graphics and sound over a modem. "Well that was fun! Let's go do something else!" (We could have done AOL years before AOL. We just didn't realize anyone would pay for this)

  • hbtc23 ᴄʜʀɪꜱᴛᴏᴘʜᴇʀ ✭ (@hbtc23) reported

@CardPurchaser remember him from AOL and he was a piece of **** then don’t have netflix but wouldn’t subscribe for him

  • BottomTweeter Phil DeGapp (@BottomTweeter) reported

@adamscrabble Starlink has enabled me to connect to the Internet way out in the country where modern day wired tech quoted me 2 telephone poles and $90 a month for 5 megs of service. 5 megs. We're talking AOL.

  • Cykumma Cykumma (@Cykumma) reported

Windows 11 is being so slow on my desktop that it's insane. It's the OS itself not the internet since webpages load fine but Windows Explorer is lagging like it's AOL Dial-Up.

  • x0lolitadelrey JDM ♡ (@x0lolitadelrey) reported

@Twitter need help accessing an old account. I can’t log in to change password bc the Email I used aol deactivated it due to inactivity.

  • nfinitemonkey Monkey Shakespeare (@nfinitemonkey) reported

@WilliamAder Hang on to that AOL account. I smell a comeback.

  • BillyBatson423 William Batson (@BillyBatson423) reported

@nothingfromnada AOL fumbled definitely, but AOL was never the word for "going online." Skype was the defacto word for any form of video call (except maybe FaceTime) and they just let Zoom come out of nowhere and become the main service people use for video calls during covid. Massive fumble

  • RogueScholarMDC Rogue Scholar MDC 🍥 #Rifts (@RogueScholarMDC) reported

@Grummz Ultimate Online was the first MMORPG, with the emphasis on the first M (Massively). The actual first "MMO" which could support up to 60 players was Neverwinter Nights on AOL, at least the first *graphical* MMO. MUDs came before that but it was text based.

I remember being ten. I was awful. This was back in 2000, when AOL chatrooms were still a thing and it was easy to just catfish grown men and fleece them out of money. All it required was a little maliciousness and an ambivalence to penises. Anyway, keep an eye on your kids.
