  @bennyjohnson Such an easy fix.. nuke the internet. Life was WAY better before AOL came along.

  The top 10 companies that crashed in 2000: Cisco, Microsoft, Intel, Lucent, JDS Uniphase, WorldCom, AOL Time Warner. While the internet and computers did become really big, the market was wrong about every one of these companies except Microsoft, and there was plenty of opportunity to buy it after the crash at a much lower price. (Intel and Cisco are still around as major companies too, but they were extremely overpriced then compared to what they are worth now. Terrible investments even if you had a very long time horizon.) Amazon was considered a minor company (and it crashed big time), Apple was considered a minor has-been company (and it crashed big time), Google wasn't a public company yet, and Facebook didn't even exist. So the point of this is to not believe the market hype about which companies are going to benefit in the long run from AI.

  @Dan_Jeffries1 Gates never said this. In the 1990s, Microsoft focused on proprietary online networks (MSN) rather than the 'internet'. Think AOL. The 'internet' was a side product you got by connecting to their proprietary service. Downplaying to be the source of connection = marketing 😐

  @no1eliofan For the vast vast vast majority of players, you could talk to your friends over the phone, message them over AOL, or just see them the next day at school So why write down a message onto mail, give it to a pokemon, and trade them that pokemon to send a message?

  The horde is following each other off a cliff believing Madam Media’s hysterics over open source. I believe either Anthropic, OpenAI, or a newer competitor—or all three—will be ten times bigger than they are today within the next text years. LLMs are the AOL of the AI age. We haven’t even gotten robotics and healthcare and everything else. The hyperscalers are only starting to show the analysts how slavishly emotional they are. The economists pointing to history books have never been right. They were the same group claiming we’d hit a new all time high plateau in 1999. History never repeats and rhymes only when you tilt your head and squint. In reality, reality is a complex adaptive system that requires constant analysis and logical assessment. There are no shortcuts, and you should never trust the hacks who use them. $AMZN $GOOGL
