@mjrobbins @Carl_Baron Take something like AOL Instant Messenger. In 2001, I could put each conversation in a window, send any font/style/size I wanted with a WYSIWYG editor, basic simple **** literally NO chat app does now that they've all become single-window monstrosities with ******* Markdown.

My overall WORST relationship and dates came from OkCupid and Match. It was also during a time where the start of said hookup apps being created Back in my day, we only had aol chat rooms, Craig’s list, and gaybfocused websites like A4A, DList, and Fab dot com.

@waltmossberg @karaswisher I remember how she grilled me writing her WSJ stories / aol et al. Even then she or her pov or angle or mode of inquiry, was as memorable as the stories themselves - tho w/o being intrusive. Never about her yet recognizeable BY her.

@pyrrhl First signed up for my own email address with rocketmail in 1996. Aside from the domain I still use the same address (it has moved around to almost every provider sans aol since then...) Is that a bad thing?

@popeyeotaku Yeah lol I didn't know it was a thing until I used this sketchy program called "methodus toolz" which was this weird script kiddie tool for getting in trouble on AOL. One of the options was a really simple way to do what you're talking about
