  • racheldweissman Rachel Weissman (@racheldweissman) reported

The company failed to develop its own social media platform or acquire existing platforms, such as Facebook or MySpace. Instead, AOL focused on its existing business model of providing dial-up internet service and online content and failed to pivot to social media and UGC.

@Bug44794325 I had a VHS (still have actually). You give yourself a point if you never did the action. I didn't have an AOL because it wasn't offered in my area. But we had a local dial-up BBS with email.

@MeetMeAtDaBees I have a question. I’m rewatching a bunch of old 2002 NASCAR races. And my favorite rewatching these is Jeff Green. The 31 car never matters and he’s basically paid to drive around a very fast AOL billboard for a few hours every Sunday… (1/2)

So, Uber and Lyft are having some trouble. I hope they work it out. But companies that break the business model don’t always survive. AOL is the best example but there are many others.

@AOLSupportHelp When are you going to fix your app password generator? It's been down for weeks and it's infuriating that such an important part of your system is almost always non-functional! I just want to use AOL with my mail client. Is that too much to ask?

@TonyMacaroni22 @Glinner OK grandpa, AOL is down for the rest of the night

@laurentzeimes They don't, they just whitelist you and contact you if there is any issue. There are not so many big providers that require server whitelisting. Msn and aol are the only ones that come to my mind now.
