@retailgeek @web AOL was metered hourly until late 1996! Compuserve's UI sucked, was late to screennames, bad browser and email experience, etc. By then it was already toast.

Actually now that I think about it, a guy in his 60s with an AOL address has never worked for someone else, and never had to change it. Never had to worry about technology. And still pays $14.99 a month for email. This dude might be a billionaire
