@LarryBundyJr Habitat was closed in the late 80s, it was turned into something else I think but on an online service like AOL or Compuserve.

  • 3fecta Dag (@3fecta) reported

@djrothkopf There has been an odd stability to the internet lately which is ahistorical. MySpace, Geocities, AOL, Netscape all were great powerhouses. So it's not weird that Twitter declines and a new power fills the void. Or Musk cuts his losses and a Google, Microsoft, or Amazon buys it.

  • o_dark_dirty O Dark ***** (@o_dark_dirty) reported

@elonmusk Lol.. Holy crap. Let me pop in my AOL trial disc and double check this. Or, perhaps, Ask Jeeves.

  • TundraVision CD TundraVision (@TundraVision) reported

Remember MySpace? AOL? Facebook? Those were all "never-going-away-social-media-mainstays" at one point. Now, they're either gone or the youths have already abandoned them. Elon's Twitter is a $40B boondoggle that will just create a new social media behemoth he can't touch.

@wjmaggos @lolennui @AOL GenX kid here. I wonder why we aren't all still using those wonderful systems. There was lots of fun stuff on AOL that the WWW never really replicated. I left it because it was too expensive not because I was some brave internet pioneer.

  • hnterbidnmademe 🌊 Hunter Biden Made Me Do It(blue check)🏳️‍🌈 (@hnterbidnmademe) reported

In my day, we didn't have blue checks. We had Prodigy message boards and AOL. No one knew who ******** anyone was.

  • wanyinbot Jiang Cheng (@wanyinbot) reported

Jin Ling. Come help me guess Wei Wuxian's AOL password

  • TrippDinger Tripp Dinger (@TrippDinger) reported

@ArkadyKoshka I was still logging in to AOL until they switched back to making it a paid service. I'll be here until it dies too, most likely. If we meet again, awesome. If not, I will miss Sunshine.

  • TheGirlPie It's The GirlPie! (@TheGirlPie) reported

@Gothamist Any reason your website won't let me subscribe to your newsletter with my email address? It doesn't seem to accept my aol account as legit. But TheGirlPie@aol is older than you are and I'd like to subscribe. Can you help?

  • hippiethemute junkyard dawg (@hippiethemute) reported

My earliest memory of the internet was going to my cousins house and using the AOL disks to get online and just talk **** to strangers in chat rooms
