My little sister just graduated from AOL and I was never a fan of the school because the other kids were always out of pocket. I have no idea how she did it all those years.

@Chicago_History It was upgraded to Win95, then parts lived on in a rebuilt machine with a Pentium I. Somewhere that got upgraded to Win 98. In roughly 1999, the 1GB hard disk was moved to D: so a 3GB drive could supply room for upgrading to AOL 5.0, because Y2K? Taken out of service in 2002.

Over 18 years ago I had a AOL free internet service desk and I just made up some weird name like John Doe or some crap like that that I use for about a week that wasn't very appropriate of me I did report that to the FBI long time ago

@mostlybree When I moved to rural PA from Toronto, I was gobsmacked at the lack of... everything. Including sidewalks. Taxis are a nightmare; public trans only if you live IN the town already, and I literally chased the truck down the street to get internet and off AOL dial-up. :P

@acony_belle I met my current wife through a random person I met on AOL instant messenger. In 1997, I was on a all text free Internet service run by our local university that allowed me to go to IRC chat rooms. It seems like ancient history to me
