@no_lying_online @basedball_ AOL Messenger was an instant messenger service for one-on-one chats. It was not a totality of community communication. MySpace was less social media and more a frontpage for yourself to litter with HTML garbage. Facebook would fundamentally change that dynamic.

Haha remember how I had some “friends” in 7th grade that pretended to be a guy, fake asked me out over AOL messenger, and made me look like a huge idiot when I asked the guy why they wouldn’t say hi to me in the hall? I sure do. Super funny. 🙃

@SantiagoAuFund There is space for crypto. IMO few coders invest in Bitcoin because we know code, protocols, APIs, have short lives. Boomers don't invest because we remember when social media was Friends Reunited, search engine was Alta Vista, and AOL provided curated internet. Network effects?

Im old enough to remember Napster, lime wire, aol dial up, paid phones, beepers, atari, cassette tapes, vcr, type writers, & playing mine sweeper & still dont know wtf i was doing just trying not to click the bomb.
