@beakfriends @rin_rin_rin_owo When I was in school not too long ago, the advice teachers gave on how to stay safe on the internet was the really outdated stuff like "don't talk to strangers in chatrooms!" or "never put your real name on the internet", stuff that made most sense in the AOL/Geocities era.

@manwnomelanin @bourbonni @PrestonPysh Not sure if you were there at 2000. At first, it looked like platforms like myspace, msn, aol or yahoo were winning. They were very dominant and the share prices were strong. google, facebook and youtube have broken this initial dominance with lasting effect.

My mom first made me Karleecam at AOL for my first email address ever (after she shot down my suggestion.. ‘SparkleMoonPrincess’ 🙄) when I was like.. 9? because of my name (duh) but now I think of if as like.. Karleecam as in Webcam or Earthcam..you get it..
