without being aware. I’ll never forget walking home from school one day, which I usually got A’s & B’s but didn’t feel challenged or motivated to be into it enough, when someone on a street corner of the subway handed me a floppy disk of AOL 1.0.

My little sister just graduated from AOL and I was never a fan of the school because the other kids were always out of pocket. I have no idea how she did it all those years.

@BigWillCarp Yea, she just took the kid’s milk and poured it down the drain. Last season she used a satanic pseudonym on aol instant messenger to weasel her way into his house. Going from Ritchie and his fetish to Ralphie and his fetish alone. Psychopath. 💀

@megansarahj I had AOL right at the end, but luckily I got out before the damage could move at speeds beyond that of my 14.4K dial-up modem that hogged our only phone line.

@2kw8Vainglory Back in the 90s I was banned by AOL for violating their TOS, and I was a paying customer. I was paying for the service and they told me to screw off with my money. Why? Because they were just that big. Twitter has the same amount of leverage.

@smc429 @MysterySolvent @jack Oh WOW, it's still around? It was one of the search engines after aol. There were like 20 search engines that popped up right after aol gave up their monopoly. Was never popular- at least I don't think.

@QBStupid His tweets are irresponsible just read further down the line. Your Rights are not finite and on private platforms you don't have the same rights because you agree to their TOS and restrictions. What stops ****'s from posting or forming groups? The TOS. People have sued AOL & lost

It was stupid, I was 15 and just becoming accustomed to this paradigm shift in communication called the Internet. I wanted to feel the power of my words have an effect on people’s state of mood and mind, frothing the AOL chat into a panicked frenzy. Anyhow, I was anonymous. (3)

I had no fear of repercussion. Or so I thought. AOL immediately booted me from the chat, and from AOL entirely, well before my 50 free hours were used up. They called my house, spoke to my mom and told her I violated their terms of service by “inciting a riot in a chatroom”. (4)
