@ViktorBunin @compoundfinance Code as law is something slightly different I’d argue, like how small biases might lead to big unintended consequences due to code being law. AOL banning ”breast” as a word meant that the American Breast Cancer Society could not discuss its issues on AOL. Example from @lessig

  • Jxnewton Jude 🗳 🌐 (@Jxnewton) reported

@robbysoave @WalshFreedom All social websites eventually fail. The internet is a moving target there's always something bigger better getting ready to launch around the corner. *geocities *Prodigy *Compuserve *AOL *Network 54 *MySpace

  • CKraymer ChazKraymer (@CKraymer) reported

@TheAbitaBeer Nope, but my AOL account is really slow.

  • FrancineHibiscs Francine Hibiscus 🌺🏳️‍🌈🩰 (@FrancineHibiscs) reported

@shambrookben @AuntHortense I remember the early days of AOL messenger, a bunch of us were doing pig play with a New Jersey housewife, and we realized that we could also be texting a 14 yr old and we would never have known.

  • Beach19thSt Marshall Beach 19th St (@Beach19thSt) reported

@EdwardRocket1 @IllyBocean I tried AOL in 1994. Took a floppy disk out of a magazine, I think. It took so long for the browser to load a photo I told my girlfriend that this internet thing would never take off.

****.. AOL Instant Messenger is down too. The book club is going to be really pissy tonight.

  • funnymonkey Bill Fitzgerald (he/him) (@funnymonkey) reported

@eliomen Yes, this. The tech solutions never delivered, in many cases because UX was an afterthought. I think about people fleeing AOL and landing in the internet. What's the analogous experience here?

  • resilientcypher RC (@resilientcypher) reported

@H3KTlC I remember AOL chat rooms, those were like the wild west in there. almost no rules. Modern social media is much more locked down than it was bsck then for sure. If "ASL" was entered, things were about to get real. lol.

Father's Day>Dalek>Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways>Empty Child/Doctor Dances>End of the World>Boom Town>Unquiet Dead>Rose>Long Game>AoL/WW3 Yes, I skipped the TV movie. What was I gonna do, rank it against itself? And yeah Father's Day is king
