  How do all these people have 10s of thousands of "followers"? People that don't necessarily post anything new or just re-posts of other peoples' thoughts & work. I don't get it. I've been a member for a while now (w/ THIS acct - my orig was cancelled by Twitter during COVID for telling the factual scientific truth about masks based on my years in Bio-Nanotechnology). Is it strictly from those "Follow" train lists? I learned early on to stay away from those - I check out EVERYBODY I ever follow first & personally (not necessarily relying upon Grok's "Profile Summary", although those may get me interested to take a gander). I try to engage those who engage with me and avoid silly flame-wars. I don't post to GET followers, I generally post current stream-of-consciousness thoughts, what's on my mind at that moment & not really organizing them into proper English "articles". Plus I'm not really good at pithy comments - I speak from my heart & soul and EXPLAIN myself & my reasoning for coming to different conclusions. And I typically don't engage in irrational, emotional hyperbole & name-calling. I truly want to know what others think and LEARN (you're never too old to learn!). For DECADES on BBSes (Bulletin Board Systems - pre-graphical internet days, modem-connected social systems for discussion, research & debates), the Usenets (newsgroups, pre-graphical/HTTP/HTML internet days when time on the internet was purchased through 3rd party vendors like CompuServe by the hour - 70s & 80s, pre-AOL (which is slightly pre-HTTP/HTML/Mozilla-Netscape graphical internet revolution) - where everything was command-line driven in ASCII, EBCDIC, ISO set or ATASCII or the like). Am I just too old, boring, long-winded, obnoxious, opinionated or what? I know its annoying with me posting about my health, but I've gotta vent SOMEWHERE and NO ONE on X knows me personally. Not that it matters so much now, I'm heading down the stretch-run to Home plate, but even paying for Elon's blue-checkmark, I don't get many hits/views or responses/engagement, it is pretty comparable to my "free" account that I use solely for NFL stuff where I have 1 whole "follower", which is probably one of those online ho-bags. It's not that I'm looking to "earn" from X and I'll NEVER post things just for click-bait value. I'm just really curious how these other accounts accrue so many followers for literally not doing much,

  This is exactly the kind of infrastructure-level integration that proves we’re past the build phase 👀 Ripple successfully tested as a blockchain enhancer for the SWIFT network (Hyperledger + ISO 20022) back in June 2025, and now it’s moving toward actual integration. Remember when the internet went from heavy build-out to mass adoption in 1998? I was an AOL shareholder and worked at UUNET selling the pipes. The parallels with XRP and the Internet of Value today are identical — regulatory clarity + real infrastructure hooks = adoption phase. We’re entering the Green Zone. 🍻

  I’m sure this will sound like the roar of a dinosaur, but as a (remaining) AOL user, I had a serious tech issue of access, called them, they answered, and a very helpful, patient human walked me through a reprogramming procedure with one of my computers to restore access. Easy

  I think OpenAI and Anthropic might be the CompuServe and AOL of the AI era. Does anyone actually think Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Apple, Meta, Oracle, IBM, X/Twitter, and all of the other big tech companies will just allow these 2 badly run startups to capture the AI market? OpenAI and Anthropic don't have a moat or sustainable competitive advantage. To win they have to not only develop a moat but penetrate some of the most fortified moats. Model quality isn't a moat. Kimi, Grok, Deepseek proved that. Inference will become a commodity utility that requires massive CapEx that neither can finance. Interface is where the moat is the weakest. OpenAI and Anthropic do not own the apps or the OS. The OS and apps are owned by parties who view OpenAI or Anthropic as threats, and they can complicate things very easily. As if that is not grim enough, AI sovereignty will become an issue. Consumers will want their iCloud data to stay in iCloud, their OneDrive data to stay in OneDrive, etc. Enterprise customers will want AI from their cloud providers to reduce egress and for performance + IP reasons. It is honestly hard to imagine a world where OpenAI and Anthropic survive as they are. They will either morph into companies with entirely different value offerings or die like Compuserve and AOL.

  @johnhboyer Lol. Think about this: it was started in 1987. Planning began in 1985, before the modern standard web browser existed. I remember thinking, when I learned shout it at Ga Tech, that it was wild that someone envisioned putting a library contacts online only 2 years after TCP/ IP protocol became standard. And before the www as we know it came into being (around 1989). Quantum Computing Service, founded the same year in 1985, didn’t even become AOL until 1991. Talk about vision!

  @syruproxy We met on an AOL aviation message board. 🤭 We crossed paths many times as kids but never met. We met in person a few weeks after nonstop phone calls and we've never been apart. I was on furlough from the airline I flew with, and I said no when they called me back. 📟 didn't work in the countries I flew to and we were inseparable by then. 30 years ago. 🩶
