But then, I thought about the people who’s never touched any of those things. Some of them came from AOL, the ones who never uninstalled it from their computers. They remember a world where paper letters and phone calls were more prevalent. Could they really go back?

@shambrookben @AuntHortense I remember the early days of AOL messenger, a bunch of us were doing pig play with a New Jersey housewife, and we realized that we could also be texting a 14 yr old and we would never have known.

@Milly_Violin @AOLSupportHelp I wonder what’s going on and I wonder if it’s just a UK issue. I do also wonder if aol are trying to bump UK account holders and this is how they’re doing it. I’ve had zero contact from aol to help resolve this issue.

The internet sucks. facebook goes down and it's like the whole internet goes down. AOL dreamed of being a one stop shop internet and we all hated that **** in the 90s. But here we are again with the internet basically being only a few sites. We need to break up monopolybook.

@ViktorBunin @compoundfinance Code as law is something slightly different I’d argue, like how small biases might lead to big unintended consequences due to code being law. AOL banning ”breast” as a word meant that the American Breast Cancer Society could not discuss its issues on AOL. Example from @lessig

@nytimes I have never been on Facebook, I thought it was a ripoff of AOL at its heights—mid 1990s to about 2005. I never saw a need to join Facebook; I doubt that I ever would at this juncture. I don’t understand this news bcuz I don’t understand Facebook.
