  • jschulweis Jason Schulweis ☕️ (@jschulweis) reported from Manhattan, New York

My thoughts on the Yahoo/AOL news summed up as follows: - as a former Yahoo, I still bleed Purple for the brand. It mattered so much to so many for so long, and still does to a degree (just in different ways) - The middle is a bad place to be. If you can’t compete in scale…

  • Newyorkist Imagine your block without cars (@Newyorkist) reported from Manhattan, New York

@CNN if he doesn't come back what do you think will happen to Amazon? Maybe it will **** the bed like Yahoo or Aol? What do you think?

  • Helen_Highly HelenHighly (@Helen_Highly) reported from Manhattan, New York

@doctorwhoviana @crosa1988 But they loved the infomercial I had written (which never aired). They thought I “understood them.” So they hired me to do all sorts of other stuff. They essentially paid for my 1st condo. Those were the days. But then AOL made a tragically wrong turn. Interesting how that goes.

  • thankyoumoses 2020 Owes us a Refund (@thankyoumoses) reported from Bronx, New York

I like to think I let **** go but I’m still out here using my AOL email

  • LevonHughey Levon Hughey (@LevonHughey) reported from Manhattan, New York

@TinaDesireeBerg This was a mindfuck to say the least. The piece of **** who made the poll did the old capital “i”/lower case “L” trick in the username. I used to do **** like that in AOL chat rooms back in the 2000s to **** with people.

  • illrecognizeill IG:@illrecognizeill (@illrecognizeill) reported from Bronx, New York

Bronx girls on Instagram be thinking this **** is AOL in 1998 with screen names like BxJeterGrl1086.

  • sara_bee Sara B. (@sara_bee) reported from Brooklyn, New York

Just thinking about that time my mom popped into my teenage bedroom where I was AOL messaging people and reading jokes on my teal blue hand-me-down Mac to say very earnestly that it is more important to have relationships with people in real life than online

  • MikeTRose Michael T. Rose (@MikeTRose) reported from Brooklyn, New York

@QuinnyPig Of all the ways AOL did us *****, the worst.

  • madg27ny1 madg27ny (@madg27ny1) reported from Queens, New York

@FlyinBrianJr Yes, I'm conyacting AOL customer service, and they told me to try another dial-up server, and update the software for AOL instant messaging. Still waiting for a good connection. That 1 gig speed internet isn't an improvement either.

  • PoasAlajuela Hernandez (@PoasAlajuela) reported from Queens, New York

@AOL I have problem opening my emails

  • AlanModracek Alan Modracek (@AlanModracek) reported from Closter, New Jersey

@cjane87 I keep putting the emails in the spam folder, but the filter keeps putting the new ones in my inbox. Maybe AOL just sucks? Everything else I only have to flag once or twice, though.

  • Robderbs Baseball is Back! (For Now) (@Robderbs) reported from Manhattan, New York

Damn if @AOL email isn’t down again.

  • britshaniece Brittany♚ (@britshaniece) reported from Manhattan, New York

Think about how horny you gotta be to see some porn in the Fleets. That UX is horrible. AOL dial-up porn.

  • vodkasnowflake I’m the Big Man, I think (@vodkasnowflake) reported from Manhattan, New York

I owe it to AOL and SNL for educating me when I was still single digits of age. But TWA’s crash shook the **** out of me because I was visiting Florida like once a year, so I was anxious every time I got back on a plane.

  • lechaflan Bobby L (@lechaflan) reported from Jersey City, New Jersey

My favorite AOL/AIM profile was simply Times New Roman size 12 white background simply saying "Loading..." and away msg was "just got into a really bad accident. be back later"

  • raygootz spooky gootz (@raygootz) reported from Manhattan, New York

@skinnymysterio WCW cut everyones salaries in half in 92 cause they could. Also AOL wanted wrestling ******** off tnt didnt matter if nitro started destroying raw in ratings. All these corporate pricks are the same.

  • dberkowitz David Berkowitz (@dberkowitz) reported from Manhattan, New York

@michaelmiraflor @Aerocles @MattJMcD Why is it a problem that they’re asking what web3 is? To me, that’s a great sign that they care. This is so new in any practical sense. The web itself didn’t matter to most without the browser & AOL. Web 2 didn’t matter for most until Facebook. Most people need real applications.

  • steketee steketee (@steketee) reported from Manhattan, New York

@aripap If AOL could figure out why they dropped the ball in AIM, I might consider reading the rest of their issues

  • JPMcEvoyNYC James McEvoy🇺🇲🇮🇪🌈♊👨‍🦰 (@JPMcEvoyNYC) reported from Manhattan, New York

@electroboyusa Nope. Same AOL email since dial-up. I also have the same phone number since 1986 and never had a Facebook account. Never felt the need to follow the crowd "just because".

  • peeping1 Jose jpalm5515@gmail.com (@peeping1) reported from Queens, New York

@AOL Nothing except federal properties shut down, and Federal workers go on forelong

AOL Issues Reports

Latest outage, problems and issue reports in social media:

  • ladufurrena ladlady (@ladufurrena) reported

@Humanstein 1998, at a small office, drafting and art supply/gift store called “Lundberg’s Downtown.” It was one of two Internet Service Providers (ISP) in the rural area. I was pretty good at instructing people how to install AOL (28 then 56k) on their home computers.

  • sunstarsys SunStar Systems (@sunstarsys) reported

@HappyBuddha19 @eshaLegal We were just trying to socialize and create intellectual value for us and our peers, not do homework for the lazy sobs every other ISP threw into the mix after AOL led the way. People just said **** on Usenet at that point not for topicality, but solely for audience reach.

  • efan78 Ethan Kristopher-Hartley 🏳️‍🌈🇬🇧🇪🇺 (@efan78) reported

@JaeKay ****! I hadn't thought of that. Oh wait, Lumiya's no longer available so he won't be able to get it on his phone. Phew. Maybe we should start sending him the old AOL CDs and get him on AIM? 😜

  • mrsallnut 🏳️‍🌈 MrsAllnut🏳️‍⚧️ (@mrsallnut) reported

@parscale You've never had the privilege of having AOL cut off your internet bc your credit card expired & it shows. These things all have contractual obligations. Read the fine print & quit your puling.

  • nodusormu Jules ☃️ bIm (@nodusormu) reported

I used to get in SO much trouble cause everyone in the house could hear the dial up noise when I tried to login at night... through AOL lmao

  • theindexseries The Index Series (@theindexseries) reported

And the right of @facebook, @twitter, etc to do this is outlined in their terms of service. But hey. Don't even go that far. Anyone who was ever on LiveJournal, or on AOL, or on a topic forum in the early 2000s, knows all this already. 7/

  • Jwelsh8 jwelsh8 (@Jwelsh8) reported

@Humanstein I’m wondering if mine was an AOL room, but I can’t nail down the timeline. Definitely read rec.music.dead in 1994 and 1995, and started to be active in rec.music.phish in 1996, maybe? I do remember browsing Hypercard stacks in 1993. But that wasn’t a “community.” @neddyo

  • HomophobicAsuka temmie (@HomophobicAsuka) reported

ik ive said this 5000 times but the fact that people are going to joke about discord in 10-20 years the same way we joke about aol and myspace and **** today is so ******* weird

  • BotJesting Jesting Russian Bot (@BotJesting) reported

@AndersBjork2 @IDFSaturn No because it is not centralized. IRC is literally a part of the internet and it's how you would chat with people back in the day if you didn't use a centralized service like AOL, Compuserve or Prodigy.

  • JaneKizabiMD Jane Kizabi 🐝 (@JaneKizabiMD) reported

@goldengateblond One by one all the social media platforms are shutting him out. In the end, he'll wind up having to get his fix in some 90s AOL chatroom that inexplicably escaped being shut down.
