  • scotts_takes Scott's Well-Researched Takes (@scotts_takes) reported

@chronolynx @AoiWorship I -never- used AOL IM. MSN was a extreme 2007-2009 thing for me, chatting with people from forums. I'm anti-social, even having a text thread with my friends is tiring...

  • WindmillPunch Andrew (@WindmillPunch) reported

@AtlanticOshMan @susanbordson @davenewworld_2 The rest of them I'm unsure about. It never had a formal name and no one met in person aside from 'astral projecting.' the defacto leader was 18 when it started. Initial meetings happened in Phantasy Star Online and follow up was over AOL Instant Messenger.

@jamie247 They are kind of like the AOL of crypto. Have lots of beginners and can get away with a poor product and poor service. Probably get acquired at some stage maybe by a bank.

  • BenRTerry Benjamin R. Terry (@BenRTerry) reported

I guess they are an evolution of the old (though still existing) AOL, MSN and Yahoo! style landing pages (local ISPs used to have 'em too). Those sites feel kinda... mass market, ad-driven, Network Nightly News-ish. These custom pages were a step up I think.
