@JoeSquawk too bad you don't bring David Trainer on from New Constructs. He wrote research on AOL way back in 2014 citing all the negative issues and what the company was truly worth. in the meantime BILLIONS r being written off !

  • FinTwitFB FinTweet $FB Tweets (@FinTwitFB) reported

Verizon bought AOL & Yahoo! thinking they could compete against Google & Facebook for banner ads. Obviously, this was a mistake. Neither company had premium video assets to build a streaming service. Google and Facebook don't own CTV, not yet at least.

  • sgtmuffin Sgt.Muffin (@sgtmuffin) reported

Verizon has sold AOL & Yahoo to one of the most customer focused business out there... a Private Equity Firm. They always have customer ('s wallet) as priority 1.

  • HelloGo78598860 HelloGoodbye (@HelloGo78598860) reported

Maybe $VZ and the 'value-play' stock pickers should get together and share nightmare stories. Investments or just very bad & embarrassing acquisitions should be the not-to-do examples in every business school case study. Maybe $T will buy AOL to reunite Warner & AOL! Hilarious.

  • netculture dr. rick, statistical outlier (@netculture) reported

As expected, Verizon has sold Yahoo and AOL to PE. That was a costly, horrible & embarrassing experiment in content-land for them in recent years. I’ll withhold comment about the value of these sites in 2021, though.

@GameSpot Talk about buying crap. who uses Yahoo or aol anymore. You sell at the top of the hype.

  • mbrushstocks Michael Brush (@mbrushstocks) reported

$VZ takes a $5 bn hit on Yahoo/AOL as the old media giants continue to get passed around, discounted at each step. Where will they settle in? I like Yahoo's service and use it regularly.

  • Donschibler Don Schibler (@Donschibler) reported

Does Verizon selling AOL mean I don’t have to use that “service” for Email anymore???

  • LibertyRPF Liberty 💚🥃 (@LibertyRPF) reported

@notpkshekhawat @Jon__Stone I got online in the mid 90s, but I kind of missed the whole AOL thing. Guess maybe it wasn't as big in Canada, or my household just never got into it, but I don't think I ever used the service or knew anyone who did ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • DStone2RC David Whettstone (@DStone2RC) reported

"The transaction is the latest turn in the history of two of the internet’s earliest pioneers. Yahoo used to be the front page of the internet, cataloging the furious pace of new websites that sprang up in the late 90s. AOL was once the service that most ppl used to get online."
