@doctorwhoviana @crosa1988 But they loved the infomercial I had written (which never aired). They thought I “understood them.” So they hired me to do all sorts of other stuff. They essentially paid for my 1st condo. Those were the days. But then AOL made a tragically wrong turn. Interesting how that goes.

@TinaDesireeBerg This was a mindfuck to say the least. The piece of **** who made the poll did the old capital “i”/lower case “L” trick in the username. I used to do **** like that in AOL chat rooms back in the 2000s to **** with people.

@QuinnyPig Of all the ways AOL did us *****, the worst.

Just thinking about that time my mom popped into my teenage bedroom where I was AOL messaging people and reading jokes on my teal blue hand-me-down Mac to say very earnestly that it is more important to have relationships with people in real life than online

  • iragersh GND Mass transit for the people (@iragersh) reported from Manhattan, New York

@crissles I'm sad that @KidFury never got to experience the blackplanet 12 at MDCC in '00 but he, like me, will get over that after quick after you have to explain to 3 grill fronts how to add the Bone Thug "Change The World" song to their page, while praying my AOL m4m chat dont popoff.

  • porkdog30 Porkdog 🇭🇹 (@porkdog30) reported from Brooklyn, New York

off, did your homework as soon as you walked in and went right back outside. TV was da shit on Friday night (TGIF) and Saturday mornings cartoons we didn’t need remotes, most likely you couldn't find it. The internet came around but we still was in the streets, but when AOL

  • Davisonbob 🌈Dr. Nostradamus MD💈🏳️‍🌈🇺🇸 (@Davisonbob) reported

@fred_guttenberg @SpeakerPelosi Twitter seems to have a “radicalization” problem as well. I saw that years ago in AOL when I was a monitor for them.

  • scarylawyer Frank Taney (@scarylawyer) reported

@parlertakes Good luck with that. I was on a legal team in 1996 repping AOL when one of the first spam farm cos raised an antitrust “essential facilities” argument against AOL preventing them from spamming. Just because a service is popular doesn’t make it essential, public, or governmental.

  • lalaresister Lalas resister (@lalaresister) reported

@TweetyKat1005 @TravisAllen02 I lived in one particular AOL chatroom in 1990- still have my email too, probably has a billion emails, havent checked it in 7 yrs, didnt think they were still around. O can still hear that awful log in sound... beeeeep bzzzzzzbrrrrrrrrrrbeeeeeeep

  • WilliamVenomous Overboss "Big T" Larrity (@WilliamVenomous) reported

Lets be honest, Twitter isn't even what we want. Its the best of a bad situation. We're here because we're drunk at 3am and it is the only thing open. If there was literally any other restaurant even slightly better open we'd be there. We never should have left the bar (AOL)

  • jstevewhite Steve White (@jstevewhite) reported

@philosophus90 @ETVPod Never did AOL, but I heard about it, like everyone else. You certainly had to have thick skin. I think this discussion often goes sideways because folks don’t talk about policies and implementations. 1/

  • BarchettaMad Mad Barchetta (@BarchettaMad) reported

@ZackMorse Indeed. Oh, those pioneering days of the BBS's. Before even AOL, where there were just text-based message boards for people to chat. It was all so innocent back then. And slow....really, really slow...
