@daybreakdisdain I grew up poor so the technology I mentioned didn't totally reflect the timeline lol. I started using the computer at 12 and it was a rebuilt pile my weird uncle put together and we had to keep using AOL free trial disks lol BUT STILL ITS A THING!

  • PeterCarruther7 Peter 'org 0x7c00' Carruthers (@PeterCarruther7) reported

@BasimHassoun @eevblog 8.1 is usable enough (came with PC; never changed it). It's OK with a few tweaks, so I don't have to use the "AOL Kids" tile interface. The day it becomes unusable, I'll drop Windows altogether.

  • lagomorpheme 🔞 mio astra (@lagomorpheme) reported

@Arashidrgn i never used AOL itself and absolutely lurked in other chats 99% of the time as a "hmm. social interaction. weird! i may also participate one day" thing, can't relate

  • angiemnyc Angie (@angiemnyc) reported

@ggres2 AOL! I thought I was bad with my yahoo 😝

  • EmpressAPGAR Lauren Michele (@EmpressAPGAR) reported

Of all of the time sucking crap we have to do in residency, truly the AAP ILP is the worst. With potentially the worst user experience of any technology I've encountered. AOL 1994 was more advanced than this.

  • chadbdot Chad Borkenhagen (@chadbdot) reported from Brooklyn, New York

@thirddegreeburn AOL chat rooms were THE WORST.

  • LuckyNagitoK Nagito Komaeda kin🍀👻🎃☂️💗💜💙 (@LuckyNagitoK) reported

@TakkisThoughts Holy ****. Is this aol? Do you have a e mail that they were supposed to e mail for security? Or text?

  • iznaut izzy "queenslayer" kestrel (@iznaut) reported

did dial-up ever have downtime? like obv you had to explicitly connect to it so it was never "always up" but i don't remember trying to get on AOL and having a message like "sorry try again later"

@aaronwall Like AOL chat w dating bots, horrorscopes... but scaled tech today doesn't succumb so easily. IMHO CH only now getting legit traction b/c it takes time for regular biz to learn how to build/utilize audiences. Likely to close down b4 success, due to SV style funding & scale.
